Week 24

Announcements

-This week is Kindness Week! We will be celebrating with a series of events and dress-up days.

Monday: Introduce Kindness Challenge

Tuesday: KSE Kindness (wear spirit colors)

Wednesday: Nothing Beats Kindness (wear your jersey or favorite team colors)

Thursday: Dream of Kindness (wear pajamas)

Friday: Kindness Makes the Heart Grow (wear pink and red)

-February's STEM challenge is attached to the email! It's due Friday, February 28.

-KSE's Relay for Life team is fundraising through Candy Grams! See the flier attached to the email.

-Progress reports go home Wednesday, February 12.

-Please turn in Rock Eagle permission slips and funds if you haven't already done so. The trip is March 25 - 27. Additionally, if you need me to administer prescription and/or over-the-counter medication to your child while on the trip, please let me know by Wednesday, February 12. The teachers will receive training on proper procedure.

-The fifth grade class photo will be taken Thursday, February 13.

-On Friday, students may participate in a class Valentines exchange. If they choose to participate, they must have a Valentine for every child in our class. We have 24 students, and I sent an email last week with everyone's first name. Students are also allowed to bring in a shoebox-sized "mailbox" for their Valentines.

-Winter Break is February 17 - 21.

-Class picture day is Friday, February 28.

-Kids Heart Challenge money is due Friday, February 28.

-March 2 - 6 is Read Across America Week. We will be celebrating with a series of dress-up days.

Monday: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (wear red and blue)

Tuesday: Fox in Socks (wear crazy socks)

Wednesday: Green Eggs and Ham (wear green)

Thursday: Thing One and Thing Two (choose a "twin" and dress the same)

Friday: Cat in the Hat (wear your favorite hat! That is also March's KSE Spirit Day)

-Monday, March 9, is our tour of Griffin Middle School.

-Wednesday, March 11, is Early Release. Dismissal will be two hours early.

-Friday, March 13, is the end of the third quarter.

-The fifth grade promotional exercise will be held on May 19, 2020 at Campbell Middle School in the gym. The address is 3295 Atlanta Rd. SE, Smyrna, GA 30080. The students should arrive at 6:00 pm. The doors will also open for parents and guests at 6:00 pm. The program will start promptly at 6:30 pm and end about 8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served at the end of program: cookies and water. In addition, we would love for all of the children to dress nicely for the program. Thanks!


Week 23 Review

Writing: Students practiced adverbs and proper placement of quotation marks. They finished their informational westward expansion essays.

Social Studies: Students finished our World War I and Roaring '20s unit.

Reading: Students continued with their book clubs.


Week 24 Preview

Writing: Students will practice writing complex sentences. Students will begin their opinion/argument writing unit.

Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about the Great Depression.

Reading: Students will learn the importance of reading multiple accounts of the same topic or event.
